Selecting Your Systems Components
The first decision you must make is whether to install a Hardwired, Wireless or Hybrid System.
If your home is already built you should assess whether or not you are able to efficiently run wire from the Systems Control Panel to the Keypad(s) and Accessories. If you can, then you are able to choose a Hardwired, Wireless or Hybrid System.
A Hardwired System will take longer to wire and install, but the components for the system are less expensive to purchase. An additional benefit of a Hardwired System is that your Accessories are powered by alternating current without the need for batteries. This will reduce the maintenance costs slightly.
Most of the time, Hardwired Systems are installed in “New Construction” and Homes with an existing System. This is because,in the case of “New Construction”, the access to the wiring surfaces is already open. You do not need to “fish” wires through walls and ceilings, making the wiring easy and flexible. If your Home is already built and “wired”, a hardwired System is just as easy to use. If your Home is not already wired, “fishing” wires may be difficult for you if you are not particularly experienced in home improvement projects.
The vast majority of Homeowners select a Wireless System. The reasons for this include the fact that virtually no wiring is necessary to connect your system’s Panel and Keypad to the Accessories. The only wiring that a Wireless System requires is the connection between the Control Panel to your Home's power supply. In almost every application, this simple wiring can be installed in less than 30 minutes by almost anyone who can use a drill, screwdriver and pliers.
Another reason for selecting a Wireless System is the ability to add and move your accessories at any time. A Wireless System will perform the same job as a Hardwired System and is just as reliable.
Many Homeowners select a Hybrid System because of its overall versatility. In an existing Home with wiring already in place, the replacement or addition of the System to include an “rf”, (radio frequency), Keyboard will allow you to continue to use all of the existing hardwired Accessories. In addition, you can add additional Accessories, both Hardwired and Wireless, such as window and door contacts, (transmitters), motion and smoke detectors, sirens, etc.
